One mod that pretty much every other mod relies on is the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch (USSEP) so that should be your first order of business. The main site that I use for mods is called Nexus and there is a very helpful community there should you run into issues or just have general questions. As you discover more you will find that some need to have other mods installed in order for them to work. You are not restricted to the usual fantasy tropes of Warrior, Wizard or Theif. Skyrim is a massive game that you can play pretty much however you like. If you have just purchased the game then you are in for a real treat.
